The morning-after run

Monday’s workout
Time: 7 a.m.
Location: Parents’ treadmill again.
The workout: 6.25 miles on the tread
The music: MTV’s “Jump Start.” 50 percent commercials, 50 percent crap. Although the Maroon Five video didn’t completely turn me off. But can we please get some women with an edge on MTV before I punch Fergie’s lights out? Thanks.
Felt like: I was encouraging myself by reminding myself what a puss-out this was compared to yesterday’s workout
Total weekly mileage: 17/30
I found myself repeating over and over the number of minutes and miles I had left and then, “come on, Maureen, you’ve got it.” Before I knew it I was down to 18 minutes 2.25 miles. Which of course, didn’t really take that long. There’s a certain amount of relief that comes with getting the two longest runs of the week out of the way on the first two days, especially when you know there’s potential for suckage at work for the rest of the week.
I finished the run at 8.7 mph again this morning, leading me to believe that either a)this is a faster treadmill or b) the spinning intervals are starting to pay off in the form of running speed. I’ve been pushing to get above 8.5 since about January 1, with little success until this weekend. Perhaps I shoud consider some more speed work, be it on the treadmill or on the bike.
The run is over. Now what?
